Bayern Munich will look to tighten their grip in the Champions League qualifying to the knockout rounds when they welcome Union Saint-Gilloise to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

The Bavarian giants are have picked up five wins in a row after the winter break, and are undefeated in 10 games in all competitions.

Union SG are on the brink of elimination in the Champions League, and they are playing largely for pride and positioning.

Bayern Munich vs Union Saint-Gilloise preview

The German champions have recorded five wins and one loss from their six Champions League matches this season, collecting 15 points.

It leaves them third in the table, but Vincent Kompany’s side are on a roll here, and they are riding high on momentum.

Bayern are heading into this game on the back of a 5-1 win over RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, leaving them 11 points clear at the top of the table.

This is the first meeting between the two clubs in this competition, but Bayern have a strong record against Belgian sides, having lost only one of their last 11 matches, and winning eight of their last nine at home.

Bayern are unbeaten in their last 37 home matches in the Champions League group stage/league phase, and they have been ruthless in attack this season, scoring 18 goals already in this competition.

Union Saint-Gilloise have picked up only six points from their six matches and are almost certain to be eliminated.

They were beaten 3–2 by Marseille in their previous game, but they remain unbeaten in five matches in all competitions.

Union SG have lost just two of their eight previous meetings with German opposition, but they tend to do well away from home.

Bayern are expected to dominate possession and create chances, and if Union SG can absorb the early pressure and get a goal, they can cause an upset.

The Belgian side have lost four of its last five Champions League games, and it will need a Herculean effort to get something from this game.

Bayern Munich vs Union Saint-Gilloise: Team news

Kompany picks his starting line-ups based on continuity and rotation, and has kept the dressing room happy by giving all his players enough chances.

The right back is an area of concern at the moment, with Konrad Laimer, Sacha Boey and Josip Stanisic all absent through injuries.

Tom Bischof could start again on the right-hand side, while Joshua Kimmich could return to the starting line-up in place of Leon Goretzka.

For Union SG, several squad players are unavailable due to eligibility rules. Raul Florucz could be in line to start after recovering from a calf injury.

Predicted Bayern starting XI: Neuer; Bischof, Upamecano, Tah, Ito; Pavlovic, Kimmich; Olise, Gnabry, Diaz; Kane.

Predicted Union SG starting XI: Scherpen; Mac Allister, Burgess, Sykes; Boufal, Zorgane, Van de Perre, Niang; Ait El Hadj; Rodriguez, Akinpelu.

Christian Falk prediction: Bayern Munich 5-0 Union SG

Bayern at the moment is a scoring machine. Harry Kane said that after the first goal, they want to get the second, after second they want to get the third, and so forth. So my prediction is 5-0 for Bayern against Union SG, and they will make the next round.
