The regulator told Staton: "The IFR can now assess incumbent owners, directors, and new senior executives as well as exercise new investigations, sanctions, and enforcement powers.

"If we have concerns about the suitability of a club's existing owner, director, or senior executive, we can step in and take action where necessary.

"The IFR's powers in relation to new owners, directors, or senior executives will come into force by the end of the current season. Until then, any new owner would be subject to the EFL's fit and proper persons tests.

"We remain in contact with Begbies Traynor and EFL regarding the SWFC administration process."
