Vincent Kompany and FC Bayern have won their 35th German championship. The coach was more than proud of his team after the win against Stuttgart, even if the season is by no means over for him
After the 4-2 win against Stuttgart, it is clear: FC Bayern are German champions for the 35th time. A title that Bayern coach Vincent Kompany described as „wonderful“ on DAZN . What is very important to him: „Every title is like the first one. These moments take a lot of work. It doesn’t start now in this season, it starts many years earlier, and then you get there at some point. Then you have to enjoy it when it comes.“
Kompany’s enjoyment of winning the title was evident when he cheered in front of the South Curve, which was unusually emotional for him. Asked about this, he said: „I already have emotions. So that’s not a problem. Anyone who has seen me on a soccer pitch would understand. But there’s everything in between, that’s where the calm arises for me. And in these moments, that’s just fully enjoying it. Everything else is not important for me now today and from tomorrow it starts again, like every day.“
Even though the season is not over yet and there are still two titles to be won, Kompany formulated a small summary of the championship. The foundation for the title had already been laid in preparation, he said, because „we won 4-0 against Lyon in preparation, we won 4-0 against Tottenham. We also won in Zurich, we won in Salzburg. I think the mentality is that you don’t decide when you want to run and when you want to take it a bit easier – with us it’s always full throttle.“
Kompany also stressed: „We also use the squad. It gives us the opportunity to do that. But then we enjoy soccer and that’s what we’ve done this year. And I’d like to enjoy it even more.“
FC Bayern face Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup on Wednesday, followed by the Champions League semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain – an opponent that Kompany described as „probably the most difficult“ to play in Europe
But before they head to Paris, Bayern can first celebrate – even if everyone involved has emphasized that today will only be moderate.
