Belgium travel to North America this summer, aiming to revive a fading football identity at their fourth successive World Cup.

Rudi Garcia, appointed in January 2025, takes the Red Devils into the finals, chasing a first global title. The French coach announced his 26-man squad on Belgian television on 15 May. Belgium qualified by topping UEFA Group J unbeaten, sealing the deal with a 7-0 thrashing of Liechtenstein.

The Red Devils finished third at the 2018 World Cup, their best-ever performance. Four years later, in Qatar, they crashed out at the group stage. Garcia has gambled on Romelu Lukaku, despite the 33-year-old playing just an hour of competitive football this season. Belgium’s all-time top scorer with 89 international goals last started in February before a hamstring injury.

Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois and Axel Witsel join Lukaku for a fourth successive finals. Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo, 21, earns his first call-up after committing his international future to Belgium this month. Juventus striker Lois Openda and Ajax winger Mika Godts both miss out.

Group G pairs Belgium with Mohamed Salah’s Egypt, Iran and New Zealand. Egypt offer the toughest test on paper. New Zealand, ranked 86th by FIFA, look the most beatable.
