James picked up a hamstring injury at the end of Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle at Stamford Bridge last month.
Initial reports had suggested James could be out for “several weeks,” but there’s said to be optimism he could return before the end of the season.
James has played a key role for Chelsea this season, and has put in some brilliant performances at both right back and in midfield.
The 26-year-old has also got himself back in the England set-up and appears to be Thomas Tuchel’s preferred choice at right back.
James signed a new six year deal last month, in a clear sign he’s fully committed to the Chelsea project and believes in the direction the club is going.
Losing James is a huge blow, which will impact Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, but Jacobs has reported in his Give Me Sport column he could return this month.
Jacobs has stated James could return in April, and is expected to be fully fit to take part in the World Cup this summer.
