Mead, who turned 31 in May, has penned a three-year deal at the Joie Stadium.

Speaking about the signing, City’ Director of Football Therese Sjogran said: “Beth’s achievements in the game speak for themselves, so we’re delighted to bring her to the Club.“

Sjogran believes the capture of Mead’s signature can help the league FA Cup winners build on last season’s success, adding: “Winning the Double last season was a special chapter in our history, but it’s one we want to build on in the coming seasons. Signing a player of Beth’s quality and calibre can only help that happen.”

A new chapter for Beth Mead

Starting her career with Sunderland, Mead quickly became known as one of the hottest young prospects in England. In a five-year spell with the Black Cats, she netted 66 goals in 82 appearances. She also helped them lift the inaugural WSL2 title in 2014.

In her first season in the embryonic WSL, Mead won the Golden Boot and was named Player of the Year in 2015.

A move to North London followed in 2017, where she was to spend the next nine years. A host of trophies followed. The 2018/19 WSL title, three League Cups, the Champions League, and a FIFA Women’s Champions Cup were all added to her haul of silverware.

Speaking about the move, Mead was excited for the challenge ahead, saying: “I’m very proud to be here. Obviously, City had an amazing season last year and I am excited to start a new chapter here.

“I think the way City plays suits me really well. I feel like it can get something extra out of my game.”

The signing of Mead represents another coup for City following the contract extension of Bunny Shaw as they look to build upon last season’s success.
