Billie Joe Armstrong says a post-match snub at the Racecourse captured Wrexham’s ruthless standards under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Armstrong was at the Racecourse in December 2024 as Reynolds’ guest for a League One match with Cambridge United, where Wrexham led 2-1 before an 89th-minute penalty made it 2-2. “He invited me to come to a game.” He said this on the Men in Blazers podcast.

“Then they ended up tying (drawing) and they go, ‘Hey, Billy, do you want to meet the team?’ I was like, ‘No, I don’t.’ Then they were like, ‘Yeah, they don’t want to meet Billy right now. They’re a little bit pissed off.’ I’m like, ‘No problem. I’m not going into that locker room.’”

That response, Armstrong suggested, showed how frustration at surrendering points outweighed the presence of a famous guest.

Former captain Ben Tozer has said Hugh Jackman received a similar cold shoulder after defeat to MK Dons in August 2023.
