Former Sunderland target Jhon Lucumí is attracting renewed attention from Juventus, Roma and Bournemouth, with a summer deal being discussed.
According to Tutto Juve, no club is currently ready to trigger the defender’s €28m release clause, which runs until mid-July, and his situation is unlikely to be settled before the end of June, while Bologna could negotiate at €20m to €22m, roughly £17.5m to £19.3m.
Sunderland pursued the Colombia international after promotion to the Premier League, submitting bids and wage offers, and the player was open to the move at one stage. Bologna, having lost other defenders, were reluctant to sell and the plan fell through. Sunderland did not revisit it in January.
Lucumí, 27, joined Bologna from Genk in 2022 and has become a key figure, making 149 appearances. He helped the Rossoblù win the Coppa Italia in 2024-25 and reach the Champions League. He has one year left on his deal.
This season he registered a team-high 168 defensive contributions in Serie A, averaging 1.4 interceptions and 0.5 blocks per 90 minutes. Those returns rank first and second among Bologna players.
Barcelona have previously monitored him, while his agent has indicated he is settled in Italy and focused on Bologna. Given his contract position, this summer may be Bologna’s best chance to secure a significant fee. A strong World Cup with Colombia could also increase interest.
