FC Barcelona are dealing with several injury setbacks across their squads, and the problems extend beyond the first team. One of the most notable absentees from Barça Atlètic is the young midfielder Guille Fernandez, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury.
The 17-year-old suffered a tibiofibular ligament injury in his left ankle during the match against CE Andratx, which has limited him to just two appearances with the subsidiary side this season. Despite his absence, he continues to attract attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
According to Bild (via Mundo Deportivo), Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are keeping a close eye on Fernandez’s situation and are considering a move for him. The German club had already shown interest in the player during the summer transfer window, but Fernandez decided to remain in Catalonia and continue his development at Barcelona.
Having taken part in the preseason under Hansi Flick, Guille was hoping to earn first-team opportunities during the campaign. However, his injury disrupted those plans. The midfielder is now nearing a full recovery and is expected to return to training soon.
It remains to be seen whether Flick will reintegrate him into the first-team setup once he is fully fit. People close to the player reportedly hope he will be given minutes in the coming months, but they would not rule out exploring alternatives if opportunities do not arise. Borussia Dortmund, a club renowned for nurturing young talent, would be seen as an attractive destination.
Guille Fernandez signed a contract extension in the summer of 2024 that ties him to Barcelona until 2027. The Catalan club holds him in high regard and views him as a player with significant long-term potential. However, it remains to be seen how his future will develop with two highly alluring options open for him.
