Borussia Dortmund have held conversations with Manchester City over the January loan signing of Oscar Bobb, as per a new report.

Bobb has been strongly linked with a potential exit from the Etihad Stadium next month as City close a deal for Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, who is set to join forces with Pep Guardiola in the north-west by the end of the week.

After bursting onto the scene in the first-team ranks with a crucial last-minute winner away at Newcastle in December 2023, Bobb’s stock rose as he graduated from the City Football Academy (CFA) to firmly integrate into the first-team squad.

The Norway international starred for Manchester City as the Blues beat local rivals Manchester United in the 2024 FA Community Shield but suffered a leg break in training in the days that followed that kept him on the sidelines for nearly the entirety of the previous campaign.

After briefly returning to fitness in February, Bobb suffered a hamstring setback that kept him on the treatment table for a few more months as he came on late in a 2-0 home victory over Leicester City in April to mark his long-awaited return to the pitch.

The FIFA Club World Cup gave the talented winger a platform to remind Guardiola and his new coaching staff – comprising set-piece coach James French as well as assistant duo Pepijn Lijnders and Kolo Toure – of his quality as director of football Hugo Viana ushered in a new era at the club.

Bobb gained form and fitness in the United States in June, impressed in a 3-0 pre-season win over Palermo in Italy in August before beginning the 2025-26 Premier League season in flying fashion for Manchester City, starring in a convincing 4-0 win away at Wolves on the opening day of the season.

However, the Norwegian has since failed to maintain a starting place owing to a loss of form and frequent fitness issues – the latest occurring in a 2-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final win over Brentford a few weeks ago – which have raised doubts over his long-term prospects in a side looking to bolster their frontline in January.

As reported by Jack Gaughan writing for Mail Sport, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City have held talks over a January loan for Bobb, who could then complete a £30 million permanent move to the Signal Iduna Park next summer.

Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Newcastle are also credited with an interest in the forward, who is also attracting interest from Sevilla and Atletico Madrid in Spain – as executives at the Etihad Stadium look to streamline their attack as they look to welcome Semenyo from Bournemouth.

Bobb is viewed as one of the most technically gifted products of the City Football Academy and Manchester City fans will cut a sad figure should the 22-year-old depart the club next month, though all parties would agree it is a move that could work to Bobb’s benefit.

City are likely to include sell-on and buy-back clauses when they negotiate Bobb’s permanent exit with a suitor next summer – and Borussia Dortmund represents an attractive destination for a player desperate for confidence and playing time.
