After initially beginning his career with Chicago Fire's second team, Guzan made his name at Chivas USA. During his time in the MLS, Guzan made his first of 64 appearances for the American national team.

Villa signed Guzan for just £600,000 in the July of 2008 and the shot-stopper went on to play 171 times for the club, also having a loan spell with Hull City.

Guzan moved to Middlesbrough for a short stint before returning to America to play for Atlanta United where he made over 250 appearances, winning the MLS Cup and US Open Cup.

"And to the beautiful game – thank you for letting me live this dream." Guzan said in his letter.

"Thank you for the joy, the pain, the growth, and the memories. Thank you for showing me that the game is at its best when it's shared with those closest to you."
