Carlos Augusto got the start for Inter Milan against Hellas Verona.

The Brazilian started on the left side of the Nerazzurri back three for the Serie A outing. He gave Alessandro Bastoni the chance to rest between the two legs of Inter’s Champions League tie against Barcelona.

As has so often been the case this season, Carlos Augusto was solid and reliable.

The 26-year-old has impressed with his versatility. He looks equally adept playing in the defensive line, or at wingback.

It was in the back three that Augusto featured yesterday. He hardly put a foot wrong, as he used his athleticism and reading of the game to keep the Verona attack quiet.

In the view of Italian media, Augusto will have given Inter coach Simone Inzaghi something to think about in view of Tuesday’s Champions League semfiinal second leg against Barcelona.

The former Monza wingback may not offer what Federico Dimarco does in attack or in possession.

However, Augusto is in the kind of form where he could well be capable of keeping Lamine Yamal quiet.
