When Romeo Lavia sat on the turf just 6 minutes into Chelsea’s midweek game against Qarabag in the Champions League last Wednesday, we all knew just what was going on.

Lavia is now into his third full season at Chelsea, but has yet to complete 90 minutes for the Blues. And endless succession of small injuries have set him back time after time, and we finally have the prognosis on this latest problem.

Nizaar Kinsella’s bad news about Romeo Lavia’s injury.

According to Nizaar Kinsella of the BBC, the midfielder has injured has quad and will miss “at least a month.”

By the journalist’s count, Lavia has now missed 88 games since his move, appearing in just 29. Keeping him on very limited starts and minutes has not proved effective at all – this latest problem picked up last Wednesday came a full week after his previous start, where he was withdrawn after an hour.

Lavia joins Dario Essugo, our other central midfield options, in the treatment room. If either are set to miss more than the month we’ve been led to expect, the club will have to make a move in January. Andrey Santos, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are the only fit senior options right now, and that’s not enough to get us through a heavy Christmas period.

In other news…

Chelsea have had some big questions up top while players have been injured, suspended and otherwise absent. With most of them now back, we can see which direction Enzo Maresca is taking this team.

Pedro Neto is one of the senior players in this group now and he delivered like one with a great outing against his former team Wolves. He talked through the reasons he thought his team had been able to get the win.
