Juventus defender Gleison Bremer admits that the departure of former Bianconeri coach Massimiliano Allegri at the end of the 2023-24 season was ‘complicated’, but he insists that he and the rest of the squad are ready to welcome Thiago Motta when they return for pre-season.

The former Torino defender also opened up on his career aspirations, explaining that he hopes to return to winning titles with Brazil and with his club.

The 27-year-old centre-back is currently away on international duty with Brazil at the Copa America, where he stopped to give an interview to Italian outlet Tuttosport, published on Saturday morning.

Bremer on Juventus season, Allegri departure and Thiago Motta appointment

Bremer believes that Juventus had a relatively strong start to the 2023-24 Serie A season, but their drop-off in form towards the end of the season meant that they were unable to mount a serious challenge for the title.

“We started very well in Serie A, but we lost a few points along the way from January until the end of the season and we were unable to fight for the title in the end. But in my opinion, the balance was positive,” Bremer said.

‘The good thing is that we managed to win the Coppa Italia, an important and traditional competition. We deserved that feeling of joy because we worked very hard and overcame a lot of obstacles that had come up along the way.“

On the departure of long-standing coach Allegri with two games of the season left to play, Bremer explained that the situation was ‘complicated’.

“It’s complicated, but that’s football. I wish him all the luck in the world for the rest of his career. I am sure that he will continue to be successful wherever he goes, because he is a very professional person and he’s so passionate about his work. I have learned a lot from him.”

And when asked about the appointment of Thiago Motta, Bremer said: “It happened at the end of the season, we had already gone on holiday or gone to team up with our national sides. I can’t say what the atmosphere was like in the dressing room because I don’t know. But, as I said before, I wish Allegri all the luck in the world.

“Thiago Motta will be welcomed very well by the whole team. He is a great professional who is doing a great job and I think he was a great choice for the club. As for me, I will do everything I can to help him adapt as quickly as possible.”

Career aspirations with Brazil and Juventus

Spaeking about his career goals, Bremer added: “Before arriving at this club, I spent four years with Torino and I grew a lot as a player and person. I have matured a lot. When I signed for Juventus, I already had an excellent knowledge of the league and the country. I had already won the award for the best player when I played for Torino and I continued to demonstrate my level with my new club.

“Little by little we are helping Juventus to return to being a top-level competitor. I am very confident that next season will bring a lot of joy to all of us, players and fans.

“I am very focussed on the Copa America and I will let my representatives decide. Of course I have read and seen some things and I am happy to know that such historically important clubs are following me, but the truth is that I will talks about it with my representatives after the Copa America.

“I have many goals, I want to play in one or two more World Cups and continue to fight for important titles in Europe.”
