Celtic have confirmed the departure of head coach Brendan Rodgers, marking the end of his second spell in charge at Parkhead.

The announcement came late on Monday evening, following the club’s 3-1 defeat to Hearts, which left the Scottish champions eight points adrift in the Premiership title race.

In a statement, the club expressed gratitude to Rodgers for his “two highly successful spells” in Glasgow and wished him continued success. The Northern Irishman departs immediately, with Celtic confirming that the search for a new permanent manager is already underway.

The Hoops have also announced that former manager Martin O’Neill will return to the dugout on an interim basis, assisted by former player Shaun Maloney.

The pair are expected to oversee first-team duties while the club works to identify Rodgers’ permanent successor.

O’Neill, now 73, previously managed Celtic from 2000 to 2005, winning three league titles, three Scottish Cups, and a League Cup, as well as guiding the team to the 2003 UEFA Cup final.

Rodgers’ departure ends a tenure that brought significant domestic success but also growing unrest this season. During his first spell (2016–2019), he led Celtic to an unprecedented run of back-to-back domestic trebles, including an unbeaten league campaign in 2016–17.

His return in June 2023 saw the club continue its domestic dominance, lifting league titles in 2023–24 and 2024–25, along with both national cups.
