Brenden Aaronson will learn today whether he has made the United States’ World Cup squad, and he has voiced support for Leeds United team-mates Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach after their omissions.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the attacker is expected to be included when the USMNT squad is announced later today, having been called up in October, November and March, and his name appeared on a reported leaked list.
Aaronson, 25, has 57 caps and nine goals, and played four times at the 2022 finals.
If selected he would join Switzerland’s Noak Okafor and Sweden’s Gabi Gudmundsson as Leeds representatives, with Calvert-Lewin and Stach missing out for England and Germany. Calvert-Lewin hit 14 goals and led the line as a target man, while Stach created chances, defended strongly and added five.
Aaronson said he was devastated for the pair, adding, “I think both of them deserve to go,” and suggested the setback could fuel their return next season.
“Super excited for me, if I can go, it’s a dream for me and my family, for them to be at the games, and to just represent my country in the World Cup on home soil, something that I’ll never forget,” he said.
