Liam Manning guided the Robins to sixth place in the Championship, but he jumped ship after their semi-final loss to Sheffield United to make the switch to Norwich City.

Gerhard Struber was brought in as his replacement, but the 49-year-old was dismissed during the March international break.

Roy Hodgson oversaw the remainder of the campaign, but he is set to step back into retirement as the search begins on a permanent appointment.

The club will be hoping that the next manager will be able to guide the team back to play-off contention in the next campaign.

Here we look at all the latest news surrounding Bristol City’s search for a permanent head coach…

Bristol City are reportedly keen on two experienced Championship managers to replace Hodgson this summer.

According to journalist Alex Crook, both John Mousinho and Steve Cooper are among the candidates to take over at Ashton Gate.

The former is currently in charge at Portsmouth, and has kept the club in the division for a second season in a row, earning him plenty of praise.

Meanwhile, Cooper is the manager of Danish side Brondby, but has previously worked with Nottingham Forest and Swansea City in the second division, as well as Leicester City in the Premier League.

But it remains to be seen whether Bristol City would be willing to poach a coach from another club, which will likely require a compensation fee to achieve.

An out of work coach that has also emerged as a contender for the Bristol City job is Russell Martin.

It has been exclusively revealed by FLW that the former Rangers and Southampton boss is in the frame to take over the Championship side.

He has also worked with Swansea City and MK Dons, and he would bring a distinctive brand of attacking and possession-based football to Ashton Gate, should he be appointed.

While his time at Ibrox was brief, the 40-year-old has previously led the Saints to promotion to the Premier League with a play-off victory in 2024.

Hodgson surprised everyone when he made the return to management by coming back to Bristol City after 44 years since his first stint with the club.

However, the 78-year-old has made it clear that he intends to go back into retirement with the end of the campaign, and he will not take over on a permanent basis.

"My remit and my contract take me through to next Saturday and a week beyond because the people at the club would like to speak with me with regard to my thoughts and maybe something they want to discuss," said Hodgson, via Bristol Live.

"But if you're saying is there a chance that all of a sudden I'm going to beg Bristol City to give me the job, that's not going to happen."

Steven Gerrard has also been linked with the vacancy at Ashton Gate, but the Robins face competition from Burnley in the race to appoint the former midfielder.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the 45-year-old’s representatives have been contacted by the Clarets following their decision to part ways with Scott Parker.

The Lancashire outfit have suffered relegation to the Championship, and are now seeking a new manager to oversee their return to the division.
