Nathaniel Brown’s move to FC Bayern is imminent. While the Munich club sees the Frankfurt-based national team player as one of the most important additions for the new season, another player automatically comes into focus: Alphonso Davies. For the Canadian, the situation at Säbener Straße could change fundamentally.
For a long time, Alphonso Davies was irreplaceable on the left side of FC Bayern’s defense. The Canadian was one of the team’s absolute key players and was considered one of the best in the world at his position.
The contract extension in early 2025 seemed to reinforce this role once again. With a long-term contract and a reported salary of around 20 million euros per year, the Munich club made it clear just how important Davies is to their future plans.
But just a few months later, the situation looks very different.
The ACL tear that Davies suffered while playing for the Canadian national team in the spring of 2025 marked a turning point.
Although the full-back fought his way back, his return to his former world-class form has been anything but straightforward so far. Further minor injuries and physical setbacks have prevented him from finding a consistent rhythm.
Internally, those in charge are said to have increasingly doubted whether Davies can continue to be the sole solution for the left side.
This is exactly where Nathaniel Brown comes into play. The 22-year-old is considered Vincent Kompany’s top transfer target. Bayern have been working intensively for weeks to sign the national team player and, according to consistent media reports, are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt.
The potential transfer fee of up to 65 million euros demonstrates the importance Brown holds in Munich’s plans.
On the field, the Frankfurt player brings exactly the attributes Kompany needs for his style of play: speed, athleticism, stamina, and versatility.

The question of how roles will be distributed is particularly contentious. According to Sky, Brown has a good chance of starting on the left side of the defense as early as his first season. If this happens, Davies would find himself in an unfamiliar situation for the first time in years. Instead of being a sure starter, he would have to fight his way back into the lineup.
A scenario that would have been hard to imagine just a few months ago. On top of that, Davies is no longer considered untouchable.
Sky reporter Philipp Hinze emphasizes: “He isn’t being pushed onto the transfer market, and he isn’t being offered to just anyone. He still has his supporters at FC Bayern. But: If a suitable offer comes in, Bayern would listen to it. He isn’t unsellable.”
This makes it clear: The club’s leadership is not ruling out a sale in principle.
The problem, however, is obvious. With an annual salary of up to 20 million euros, Davies is one of the club’s absolute top earners. Only a few clubs worldwide would even be able to handle such financial demands.
Consequently, clubs from the Saudi Pro League are primarily being mentioned as potential suitors. However, it seems questionable whether Davies himself, at just 25 years old, would be willing to leave Europe and take the next step in his career in Saudi Arabia.
Currently, there are many indications that Bayern is initially banking on an open competition for his services.
