Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes delivered a bullish message after guiding his side to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Saturday.
Fernandes was back to his sensational best as United earned their second win of the Premier League season by sinking Enzo Maresca’s men.
United started brilliantly, attacking Chelsea’s goal and they were rewarded almost immediately as Robert Sanchez was given his marching orders for bringing down Bryan Mbeumo just outside the box.
Shortly after, Fernandes broke the deadlock for United, as he got on the end of a ball from Patrick Dorgu to guide it into the back of the net. Casemiro added a second just before he was also shown a red card for a second bookable offence.
Trevoh Chalobah threatened to spoil the party for United when he scored later on, but Ruben Amorim’s men managed to hold on for all three points.
Several United players impressed, but Fernandes stood out above the rest. After a slow start to the season by his standards, he came back to life against Chelsea.
His goal was a special one, as it marked his 100th for United during what was his 200th Premier League appearance.
After the final whistle, Fernandes spoke to MUTV and made it clear he won’t change who he is or the way he plays, no matter what the critics say.
The playmaker told MUTV, “I just want to enjoy playing football. I enjoy so much being out there, even the frustration I have out on the pitch.”
“I enjoy that. That is me being me. I won’t ever change that. I know I need to deal with everyone in a different way, and I’m able to do that, but I need to feel that.”
He added, “I need to feel that Bruno back. That was the Bruno who played down the streets with his cousins.”
“This is the same Bruno, I just want to win games and be happy.”
“Not just for me, for my team-mates, my family, my fans, to get days like this and wins like that.”
The Red Devils are back in action on Saturday when they go away to Brentford.
