AC Milan captain Davide Calabria has admitted that the team were lacking in every area during last night’s 3-1 defeat against Liverpool at San Siro.
Things started in an ideal way for Milan when Christian Pulisic fired a low shot inside the far post less than three minutes into the game, but then Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk each scored headers from set-pieces to turn things around for Arne Slot’s men.
That left the Rossoneri chasing the game and they fell another goal behind in the second half when Dominik Szoboszlai scored with an instinctive finish from close range, and that effectively ended the game.
The stats show that the Premier League side were more than deserved winners and the Milan team had to face boos and jeers under the Curva Sud at full-time, with supporters making it obvious they are not happy with the performance levels.
Calabria spoke to Milan TV moments after full-time to comment on what was a difficult night for him and the rest of the team, with his comments translated below.
“We had a good start, but then something was missing. We had to do better in everything. We could have done better, we started well and we did what we had prepared, but then we made mistakes in the details,” he said.
“We had to get back into the game after the goals, but we didn’t manage to do it. It’s not an easy moment, we have to roll up our sleeves. Today we could have done better, but the details were missing. A team like ours, we had to be more aggressive.
“Torriani? I’m happy for him, he’s a great worker. If he continues to work like this he’ll have a great future.”
