Côte d’Ivoire is on track to defend its African champion title after securing a place in the quarter-finals of CAN 2025.
The victory over Burkina Faso bore the hallmark of Amad Diallo. The young Manchester United winger set his team on course by opening the scoring in the 20th minute against the Stallions.
This marks the Ivorian prodigy’s third goal of the tournament—a first for an Ivorian player since Didier Drogba in 2012. It’s a feat sure to spark fond memories among Elephants supporters.
Champions in 1992, 2015, and 2023, Côte d’Ivoire dreams of retaining the crown they won last year on home soil—a feat previously achieved by only three nations: Egypt (three times), Ghana (once), and Cameroon (once).
Born in Abidjan, Diallo already has 5 goals in 15 caps. At 23, the Manchester United man is fully embracing his role as a leader in this squad that blends experience and youth.
