Carlos Soler will play his third Copa del Rey final on 18 April against Atlético Madrid at La Cartuja in Seville. The former Valencia midfielder is chasing a second crown after winning in 2019 against Barcelona with Lionel Messi, having lost the 2022 showpiece to Real Betis.
Now at Real Sociedad, he has become a cornerstone of Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side and has taken control of midfield. According to Superdeporte, he was a leading figure on and off the pitch in yesterday’s win over Athletic.
After the match he said the team went out to win, refused to let their lead slip and felt close to the final once ahead. He added they managed the game better with the advantage.
Recently a first-time father, Soler wants to lift the trophy with his son Martín present. The baby could not attend against Athletic, but he dreams of celebrating with his family beside him. He dedicated a goal at the weekend and hopes Martín will be in the stands by the final.
On the penalty that sealed victory over Athletic, he admitted he had not seen it live or on replay. He noted that if it went to VAR, that followed games where they felt calls had gone against them. He stressed that beyond the penalty, they kept clean sheets across both matches and were deserved winners.
