Celtic said goodbye to Kyogo Furuhashi in the winter and did not end up signing a replacement for the long-term first choice number 9. Despite that, goals have not been a problem for the Hoops in recent months. Daizen Maeda has been scoring for fun lately and has thrived whenever put in a central role. On the other hand, Adam Idah has done a decent job as well.
So, it looks like Celtic are not as light on options up top as first feared. Yet, it looks like the club are planning to sign a high-profile striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.
As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are set to accelerate their plans to sign an ‘A-list’ striker in the summer transfer window. The Scottish club are waiting to “see what they can do” in the market.
Of course, bringing in another striker would be the right choice. There always needs to be a competition for places at a club like Celtic, especially as they look to build upon their good Champions League campaign this season.
Celtic were linked with plenty of strikers in the winter transfer window even though they did not end up signing one. Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby IF and David Strelec of Slovan Bratislava are just two such names.
Of course, it remains to be seen what fits the definition of an 'A-list' striker. Is it going to be a household name like Kelechi Iheanacho or Danny Ings, two players the club have been linked with recently? Or are they looking to bring in someone who has the potential to develop into a top player?
Do not rule out the possibility of making a move for Odsonne Edouard. The Frenchman has had a disappointing few years in the Premier League.
