Valencia have issued a medical update on centre-back César Tárrega after Sunday’s match at Getafe. The club said in a statement that he has sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and will follow a treatment and readaptation plan. He is set to be sidelined for around three weeks.
Tárrega left the game before half-time with his knee bandaged. His absence adds urgency to Valencia’s search for defensive reinforcements in the January window.
The defender has been a regular for head coach Carlos Corberán since the Cheste native took charge a little over a year ago.
At present, only José Copete is available at centre-back. Mouctar Diakhaby has a serious muscle injury and will miss the rest of the 25/26 season, while Eray Cömert sat out the trip to the Coliseum with minor discomfort.
With less than two weeks until the window closes, the need to recruit at least one centre-back is pressing. Among the options under consideration are Dutch defender Justin de Haas, with talks held with his club Famalicao, and Swiss centre-back Aurèle Amenda, who is seeking a loan from Eintracht to aid his national-team prospects before the World Cup.
