Charlton Athletic defender Charlotte Newsham has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury along with damage to her Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL), posterolateral corner and hamstring tendon.

The Addicks announced the news via a post on their official club website earlier today.

The 25-year-old Scotland international defender sustained her injuries in Charlton Athletic’s 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City at The Valley on the final day of the Barclays WSL2 season. Newsham played 85 minutes of the match before being replaced by Katie Lockwood.

Newsham has now been fully-assessed by the Charlton Athletic medical team and it’s a case of very bad news with the player set for surgery and a significant period of rehabilitation on the sidelines. The defender is likely to be sidelined throughout the entire 2026/2027 season as she aims to make a full recovery.

Newsham’s injury is a further bitter blow for Charlton Athletic after the defeat to Birmingham City saw them miss out on automatic promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League. The South East Londoners must now face Leicester City in a one-off play-off tie for the right to play top flight football next term. That tie is scheduled to take place at The Valley on Saturday 23 May 2026.
