It's fair enough for any team to want players who are currently at Aston Villa. Monchi and Unai Emery have built an excellent squad. There are a number of talents that would undoubtedly do well outside of Birmingham. To assume that it will translate into a move from Villa is an entirely different conversation.

The Independent's Miguel Delaney shared that Chelsea are 'targeting Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers as one of their summer signings to bolster their attack.' They, as well as anyone else, are welcome to target their needs as much as they'd like. Some target an invite to a backstage pass for their favorite musical group. That doesn't make it realistic or any more likely to happen.

What this shows more than anything is how good this roster is. Among the constant changes to the starting XI, Rogers has continued to be a mainstay from the opening whistle. Although Donyell Malen has had a number of good performances after subbing on for him. Regardless, on a side with Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford since January, the 22-year-old has risen to the top as one of the Premier League's best players.

It makes sense the CFC would be sending out feelers to gauge interest in acquiring the England international. He has been playing at a high level, and they could use someone of his skill set to provide a more consistent attack. That is to say, their targeted interest is valid to an extent.

Panic mode not needed at Aston Villa

Even with that being the case, however, some are too quick to offer every Villa player right now. Yes, the looming PSR aspect will continue to cloud over club operations until it's fully resolved. As of Tuesday, though, there is not a 'For Sale' sign outside of Bodymoor.

Some appear to have it written in destiny that there will be a wholesale, penny-on-the-gold-bar sell-off, but these are overreactions. Monchi and Emery knew what the risks would be of pushing the boundaries. Although inconsistent, as long as Villa act in good faith to reconcile the financial aspects, they should be able to approach the transfer window as most other clubs.

That isn't to say that a player or two won't leave. It's fairly likely that this would have been the base either way. Chelsea can wish and have a shopping list of Aston Villa players to their heart's content. Lack of a good offer will only lead to more or less the same players returning next year.
