Chelsea are interested in a summer transfer move for Aston Villa ace Morgan Rogers, according to Miguel Delaney.

The Blues want to bolster their attack, and he is reportedly one of the names on the wishlist ahead of a pivotal summer transfer window.

Villa do not want to sell Rogers, but they may have to part ways with a key asset to avoid falling short of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The 22-year-old took the Premier League by storm this season, bagging eight goals and nine assists in 33 appearances. He has registered 14 goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

Rogers is a powerful ball carrier with an x-factor in the final third and would add a profile that the Chelsea midfield has sorely missed this season.

The West Londoners do not have someone in the engine room who can take the ball and drag the team up the field. Rogers brings that to the table.

Chelsea have signed and targeted several ex-Manchester City players over the past three years, and Rogers could be the latest addition.

However, adding Rogers raises concerns about where Cole Palmer would fit in that scenario.

Palmer has played in the hole behind the striker as a number ten in Enzo Maresca’s 4-2-3-1 formation.

Rogers would prefer to play that same position. His potential addition could mean Palmer reverting to his original position on the right wing.

Palmer excelled in that position last term, but things were tactically different under former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Palmer had Malo Gusto overlapping and taking attention away from him, but under Maresca, wingers are left to their devices to try and take on their man without support.

The Chelsea playmaker might struggle. It is worth noting that Rogers and Palmer are close friends and might relish playing together.

All signs point to Chelsea wanting to add a ball-carrier profile to their midfield, but it might have repercussions for their star player, Palmer.
