Fabrizio Romano is having fun on Youtube today promising all sorts to Chelsea fans.
He keeps telling them to expect something “crazy” from the club in the final 24 hours of the window, yet the only deals we’re seeing are sales and players being loaned out.
There’s also some very confusing news from the transfer insider on Carney Chukwuemeka. The midfielder has effectively been an outcast from the day Enzo Maresca arrived, and it has looked to all the world like the club are trying to force him out. They never use him, don’t include him in anything unless totally necessary, and there’s been endless talk about potential transfer moves.
Yet now we’re hearing something totally confusing from Romano. He reports that Borussia Dortmund made a loan bid for Carney, which Chelsea rejected because it contained a purchase clause.
He claims that Chelsea will only consider a straight loan, and will otherwise keep Carney at Chelsea. This is totally at odds with everything they’ve done up to this point, and we’re really scratching our heads trying to work it out.
If they rate Chukwuemeka and want to keep him around and develop him – why not play him? Why buy Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Joao Felix last summer to squeeze him out?
And equally, if they don’t rate him, why are they turning down bids for him? It also directly contradicts what manager Enzo Maresca has said many times, which is that Chukwuemeka should leave in order to play football.

The club brief that “Chelsea trust Carney” is almost insulting to the intelligence of those watching the situation, and to the player himself, who has now wasted 3 seasons at Chelsea not being trusted.
This really is a very curious situation, and we want to see how it develops over the next 24 hours.
