Chelsea have reportedly submitted an official bid to sign Barcelona star Fermin Lopez in the summer transfer window.
The Blues have been linked with a move for the attacking midfielder, who can also play on the wing, over the past week after selling Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan for €42 million (£36m).
The 22-year-old, who broke into Barcelona‘s senior side in 2023, registered six goals and five assists in 28 La Liga appearances last season as they won the Primera Division title.
Chelsea are hoping to make Lopez their ninth new signing of the summer after offering a €40 million (£36.6m) transfer fee, according to Fabrizio Romano.
It’s claimed that Barcelona have “no plans to sell” the Spain international. They will only contemplate a deal if the player asks to leave.
Head coach Hansi Flick said on Saturday that he does not think Lopez will leave the club before the window closes.
It has previously been reported that Barça want more than €60 million (£52m) for Lopez, who has also been linked with Newcastle United.
Lopez is one of three deals Chelsea are working on ahead of Monday’s deadline. They have reportedly agreed a deal with Brighton to bring in Facundo Buonanotte on loan, while Alejandro Garnacho’s £40 million (€46.2m) switch from Manchester United will be confirmed imminently.
Meanwhile, the west London outfit have informed Bayern Munich that they want to back out of the loan agreement they reached for Nicolas Jackson. The decision comes after Liam Delap sustained a hamstring injury that will sideline the striker for up to two months.
Jackson had flown to Germany to complete the move, which would see him join the Bundesliga champions for an initial €15 million (£13m) loan fee. The deal included a buy option for a €65 million (£56.2m) fixed fee and a sell-on clause.
