Chelsea face a formidable start to their Champions League campaign on Wednesday with a trip to the Allianz Arena to take on an in-form Bayern Munich.
While the Blues arrive as the reigning Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup champions, this fixture represents a significant step up in quality.
The challenge is compounded by a poor head-to-head record against their German opponents, having lost three of their last four encounters, making this opening match a true benchmark of their credentials among Europe’s elite.
Enzo Maresca has been handed a significant boost with the return to fitness of Cole Palmer, who overcame a groin problem to score at the weekend. However, the manager is contending with several other injury concerns. Long-term absentees Levi Colwill and Liam Delap are both ruled out.
In addition, Benoît Badiashile, Romeo Lavia, and young winger Estêvão all face late fitness tests to determine their availability. João Pedro is expected to lead the attack, likely supported by Pedro Neto and new signing Alejandro Garnacho, who could make his first start for the club.
Chelsea predicted XI: Sanchez; James, Tosin, Chalobah, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Neto, Palmer, Garnacho; Pedro.
The Champions League fixture will be played at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 pm BST
The match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 2 in the UK, with coverage beginning at 7:30 pm BST.
