Chris Davies' Birmingham City future has split opinion

Birmingham City have failed to deliver on their pre-season hype during the opening stages of the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Blues were tipped to fight towards the top of the table after enjoying an ambitious summer of spending, which saw them sign players such as Kyogo Furuhashi, Tommy Doyle and Demarai Gray.

The Second City side have lost four of their last five matches in all competitions, with a last-minute Lyndon Dykes winner against Swansea City their only source of salvation during that time.

Up next is a clash against Sheffield Wednesday, which could be viewed as a real lose-lose for Birmingham City. The Owls suffered a nightmare summer, which saw them lose a whole host of their star players and recruit just Harry Amass and Ethan Horvath on loan deals.

However, they have shown great spirit this term and are in good form heading into the match, picking up four points from their last two encounters.

Birmingham boss Chris Davies has come under increased pressure and scrutiny over the past few weeks, with some supporters frustrated that Blues haven’t been able to translate their impressive form in the transfer window onto the pitch.

There have even been calls to see the 40-year-old relieved of his position, despite just last season taking the St. Andrew’s outfit to a record-breaking League One title.

A defeat to the Owls could see the opposition against Davies’ management grow even larger and allow the situation to grow into an increasingly uncomfortable one for the higher-ups at Birmingham City.

However, some areas of Blues’ fanbase still want to back their current manager, making for quite a divide on the terraces at this moment in time.

Birmingham City supporters debate Chris Davies’ future

After the amount of promise Birmingham City showed during the summer transfer window, it seems only natural that some fans are less than impressed with how they have started this season.

That said, other members of the Blues’ faithful are choosing to take a more patient approach.

“Can’t believe what I’m reading from our fans wanting CD to be sacked,” exclaimed one supporter. “We will be comfortably mid-table at minimum by the end of the season.”

“Sorry mate,” another fan responded. “But if you think midtable is an acceptable outcome this season, then you haven't been paying attention.”

Some debating Davies’ future aimed to approach from a level point of view, discussing both sides of the argument.

“I agree 100% calling for Davies head is madness,” started one of Blues’ faithful. “But club have brought lot of this on themselves with all the noise they were making in summer about promotion again etc, was never a possibility for me, play offs at a push.

“Mid table not enough for owners imo.”

Another supporter backed the Second City side’s current boss, but believes that his future may be called into question if results don’t pick themselves up by a certain point in the season.

“I agree that CD has earned the right to continue as manager,” commented the fan. “But sentiment doesn’t come into it if these away performances continue. Yesterday was unacceptable. If we’re in the bottom half of the table when New Year rolls around, I think decisions will be made.”

Chris Davies must turn around Birmingham City form to quell doubts

After the brilliant work Davies did last season in charge of Birmingham City, it seems unlikely that he will be relieved of his duties so soon into the next campaign.

That said, Blues showed how ambitious they are during the summer window and the ultimate aim for everyone involved with the club is to fight towards promotion.

Obviously, the Championship is an extremely competitive division and escaping it is a task much easier said than done.

However, if it becomes more apparent that Davies doesn’t have what it takes to achieve that task, then serious doubts over his future may soon emerge within the higher-ups at St.Andrew’s.
