OPPOSING MANAGER - Niko kovac

During his playing days, Kovac was a defensive midfielder and long term captain of the Croatia national team until his retirement from international football in 2009.

He also spent a lot of time in the Bundesliga and featured for Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, Hamburger SV and Hertha BSC, before ending his career with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.

Kovac then took on the role of reserve team coach and eventually became assistant manager for the side in January 2013.

The Croatian eventually took over his national team, before going on to lead Eintracht Frankfurt from the side-lines. He also lead Bayern Munich to a domestic double in 2019, then later made the move to Monaco.

The experienced head coach returned to German football when he was appointed manager at Wolfsburg from 2022, later taking over at Borussia Dortmund in January 2025.

DANGER MEN

Serhou Guirassy is Dortmund's number nine with a tally of four goals in seven appearances. City will need to watch his movement in and around the box and stop Dortmund from getting the ball to him.

On the wing is Karim Adeyemi, who's pace and dribbling ability make him stand out as a key outlet going forward. The 23-year-old will cause City problems the most when he is given space on the wing and will hurt teams by cutting inside.

Julian Brandt is an attacking midfielder/winger who brings good creativity and can turn defenders with his pass and movement. Pep Guardiola's men will need to keep a close eye on his positioning and ability to create chances and link up with prolific goal scorers.

PREVIOUS MEETING

Our last head to head saw a 0-0 draw at Signal Iduna Park in our second meeting in the 2022/23 Champions League campaign.

In the reverse fixture at the Etihad in the same season, we came out on top after going 1-0 down inside 56 minutes thanks to a goal from Jude Bellingham.

City left it late as John Stones found the equaliser on 80 minutes, before Erling Haaland scored the winner four minutes later as he faced his former club for the first time.

LAST TIME OUT

We faced Bournemouth at the Etihad as we returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over the Cherries.

The three points saw us climb to second in the table as we sit on 19 points from our first 10 games. We also stretched our 100% home record in the Premier League against Bournemouth to nine games and scored 34 goals in the process.

Erling Haaland got the scoring underway in the 17th minute, when a deft Rayan Cherki header set Erling Haaland off into an acre of space.

But the lead didn’t last long, with the visitors equalising eight minutes later as Tyler Adams reacted quickest to a Gianluigi Donnarumma punch to turn the ball home.

A game filled with action got its third goal in the 33rd minute and it was the same combination, with Cherki chipping Haaland through.

City sealed the opponents fate as Niko O-Reilly scored on the hour as he strode into the box and angled a shot inside the far post.
