Brazil’s National Dispute Resolution Chamber, a CBF body, has ruled against Vasco da Gama, ordering payment of about R$ 4.5 million to Atlético over unpaid sums from the permanent signing of right-back Paulo Henrique.

ESPN confirmed the initially confidential decision and put the principal at R$ 4,212,272.45, plus R$ 208,113.62 in legal fees.

The dispute dates back to last year, when Vasco exercised a purchase option after a loan but failed to meet the agreed schedule. The deal was worth around $1 million at the time for 70% of the player’s economic rights, with shares also due to Paraná Clube and Juventude.

Atlético are pushing for settlement within the CNRD framework, which could bring sporting sanctions such as a transfer ban if payment is missed, speeding resolution. The Minas Gerais club want to keep the claim out of the creditors’ list in the RJ of Vasco’s SAF. Vasco’s legal team argue the liability should follow the RJ process.

Paulo Henrique’s move has proved a clear footballing success. After limited outings at Atlético in 2023, he thrived at Vasco and was bought permanently in early 2024. Now a key asset under Fernando Diniz, currently treating a foot injury, he has earned Brazil recognition under Carlo Ancelotti and could be in the frame for the 2026 World Cup.
