Conmebol president Alejandro Domínguez has announced major increases to prize money for the Libertadores and the Sul-Americana during Thursday’s group-stage draw.
The Libertadores winners will now receive US$ 25 million, up US$ 1 million on last year, which he said makes the final the best paid in world football. The Sul-Americana champions’ cheque rises to US$ 10 million, an increase of US$ 3.5 million on 2025.
There will also be payments for progression through the rounds. While he did not detail each stage, Domínguez estimated the Libertadores champions would earn more than US$ 40 million in total, with the Sul-Americana winners around US$ 20 million.
Speaking at Conmebol headquarters, he said the confederation is determined to intensify action against racism and to combat violence inside and outside stadiums this year. He added that initial steps towards Financial Fair Play are under way to ensure salaries are paid on time and club debts are settled as agreed.
Group matches are scheduled to start on 7 April. The Sul-Americana final is set for 21 November in Barranquilla, Colombia, with the Libertadores decider on 29 November in Montevideo, Uruguay.
