Former Leeds United loanee Connor Wickham, 33, is part of the PFA’s free agent pre-season as he searches for a new club, with ex-Elland Road target Fernando Forestieri also involved.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, week three began on Monday, with 45 unattached players training and playing friendlies for watching scouts.

Wickham joined Leeds on loan from Sunderland in February 2014, aiming for regular football under Brian McDermott. Handed the No. nine shirt, he made only five Championship appearances without scoring before Sunderland recalled him after four weeks.

He later moved to Crystal Palace in 2015 and spent six years at Selhurst Park, including a loan at Sheffield Wednesday. His other clubs include Preston North End, Cardiff City and Charlton Athletic, and he played last season for Dubai City.

Forestieri was the subject of Leeds interest in 2015 when a fee was agreed before a late reversal. Then-owner Massimo Cellino publicly questioned whether he had the mentality required for the club and Forestieri instead joined Wednesday.

The forward excelled that season, taking man of the match as the Owls beat Leeds in January 2016. After the win he posted a playful message on social media, saying the team had the right mentality to claim the three points.
