Players out for the game
Unai Nuñez will be unavailable due to a hamstring strain. He's ruled out, and we'll see how he progresses.
Renzo Saravia
He's fully integrated into the team, getting better adapted to us each week, and is available tomorrow. His hard work is compensating for his lack of match fitness, and I have no doubt that when his time comes to play, he'll be ready to help the team.
Analysis of Elche CF
They're a team that play very good football. They started with excellent results; of their 29 points, 25 have come at home. They never change their style. They want the ball and use the goalkeeper as an outfield player. They have their strengths and weaknesses. This match will be very demanding for both teams and will be highly competitive. We're focused on what we want to achieve in this game.
The importance of the match
We're focused on getting results, and to do that, we're focusing on our own performance and our mentality. We're coming off a tough, difficult week. We didn't get the result we wanted or provide the performance we wanted. When that happens, it takes a demanding, tough time, full of responsibility and self-discipline, to help us prepare in the best way possible to perform at the level we need to and get closer to the result we want.
The atmosphere at Mestalla
Not getting results is never pleasant, regardless of whether we receive negative chants or applause. I'm aware of the demands and the responsibility of being the Valencia CF coach. Valencia CF aren't an everyday club; we’re a winning and demanding one. The job involves being able to live with those demands and with what it means to be the VCF coach. My self-discipline is extremely high, and whether there are chants or whistles, my enthusiasm for being the Valencia CF coach remains undiminished.
Viewpoints for the end of the season
I see it as us having an end of the season with 24 points still up for grabs, and they're very important to us. We want to show how important the three points against Elche CF are; we want to change the image we gave off in the last match and demonstrate our mentality. We want to give our fans a victory. Regarding Elche’s performance compared to the first half of the season, you should ask Éder Sarabia. We have always wanted to be solid defensively and take the initiative in games. We are very aware of when we achieved that and when we need to improve. In the last match, we weren't the team with the ball that we want to be. At times we were solid, at other times we weren't sturdy enough. Tomorrow we want to compete very well and we must be aware of the demands that will be there: The temperature, the pace of the game... We are very clear about the competitiveness we want to see tomorrow.
The dream of any Valencia CF coach is for the fans to feel proud to belong to this club. That's why we work hard every day. Every player who belongs to this institution has that feeling. Seeing this stadium packed at Easter, with the fans cheering until the last minute, and not getting the results, is tough. There's no lack of ambition at Valencia CF, because these fans take you to another level, and when you don't achieve it, you feel a sense of pain. Repaying that, giving our best, and taking Valencia CF to the highest level is what we want.
Germán Valera and Rafa Mir
The style that Elche CF have is greater than any one player. Rafa's absence was a significant loss for the team before, because his statistics are very good. I barely had time with Germán because he left here so quickly, but both of them always contributed whenever they could to help Valencia CF. Rafa helped us a lot to achieve our objective; he provided an assist at the Bernabéu, scored against Real Betis, and I will be grateful to any player who has helped Valencia CF.
Fighting for points
We focus on every point we play for. To get results, you have to have a good performance. Our focus is on having good attacking play. Elche are a team that stalk you, who don't leave players free, want to take the initiative and attack you. We're focused on being aggressive, solid, taking the initiative ourselves, and alternating possession with Elche CF, being able to attack them. That's our ambition for tomorrow. It's going to be a very important match for us.
Demand and ambition
We understand our fans; we understand their discontent and frustration. They came here full of hope to win, and when things don't go our way, I always feel like the person primarily responsible for trying to change what we do on the pitch. We have to show that we're an ambitious and competitive team, that we give our all in every match. When we don't achieve that, we're devastated; it's been a very tough week. The focus is on performing well to achieve what we want to achieve.
We want to win tomorrow. We have a very important game ahead. We know how demanding the match is, we know what kind of match we're going to play, and we're focused on defending and attacking the way we want to defend and getting the result we want.
The need to improve
Talking about a lack of commitment would be making an excuse that doesn’t reflect what happens on the pitch. Everyone is aware of what it means to represent the club. Performance is about competing, defending well, attacking well, and winning duels. Commitment is about achieving that. Competing in every match. When we achieve that, we're very happy, we correct what we need to correct, and we give it importance. And when we don't, we have to look at what we didn't do well; what made us perform at a level that wasn't what we wanted.
