Corentin Tolisso has said he is disappointed at being left out of Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the World Cup, adding he will work even harder and never give up. The Lyon midfielder, 31, set out his feelings in an Instagram story on Thursday night.
The tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July. Tolisso has not featured for the national team since Euro 2021 and has 28 caps with two goals.
He thanked supporters for their many messages and said reaching the World Cup had been his objective. After a strong season with OL, he has 15 goals and six assists in all competitions.
Earlier on Thursday, Deschamps explained the omission, saying Tolisso is less used to playing as a pivot than others. He noted that five midfielders are currently undisputed picks, N’Golo Kanté, Koné, Adrien Rabiot, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Warren Zaïre-Emery. Deschamps added that with six places there might have been room for one more.
The 2018 world champion also offered brief encouragement to the France team.
