Corinthians and Cruzeiro in talks over away tickets for semi-finals

Corinthians and Cruzeiro will face each other on December 10 (Wednesday) and 14 (Sunday) for the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil. The first match will be held at Mineirão at 9:30 PM (Brasília time), and the second, on the other hand, at 6 PM at Neo Química Arena. Both clubs are negotiating and seeking to resolve the allocation of visitor tickets in both stadiums.

Led by Osmar Stabile, the Corinthians board believes that the ticket allocation for the visitor sections of both venues should proportionally follow 5.2% of the total stadium capacity. The Minas Gerais team, in turn, thinks it is more feasible to establish a fixed number of tickets.

In an exclusive interview with ge.globo, the president of Corinthians revealed conversations with the Cruzeiro leadership in search of an agreement regarding the issue. The Alvinegro believes that the ticket allocation should follow a proportionality, given that the capacity of Mineirão is greater than that of Neo Química Arena.

“We talked with the technical team of Cruzeiro about the ticket issue. We mentioned 5.2% (of the capacity), which is what we have available in our arena. We also want this at Mineirão, but we are facing strong resistance from them. I spoke with Pedrinho (owner of Cruzeiro's SAF), who promised to give me an answer at the beginning of the week.”

“We hope this will happen, Mineirão is bigger than our arena. I think the percentage would be good. He (Pedrinho) mentioned there is a problem with the local police, which might not allow this amount. We offered a few more boxes so that we can receive these 5.2%. I ask the fans to stay calm because we are working to make this happen,” he said.

According to Corinthians' calculations, Corinthians fans would be entitled to 3.2 thousand tickets (5.2% of 62 thousand people) for the first leg at Mineirão, on the next December 10 (Wednesday). In turn, Cruzeiro would be entitled to 2.5 thousand tickets in Itaquera (5.2% of 49,205 people).

Through an official note, Cruzeiro commented on the case: “Cruzeiro is handling all matters related to the operation of the Copa do Brasil semifinal matches directly, and daily, with Corinthians.”

Three-time Copa do Brasil champion (1995, 2002, and 2009), Corinthians seeks to win the tournament after 16 years. Since their last tournament victory, the Alvinegro has been runner-up twice (2018 and 2022) and reached two semifinals (2023 and 2024).

In the current edition of the competition, the Alvinegro has won all six matches, scoring eight goals and conceding none, eliminating Novorinzontino (third phase), Palmeiras (round of 16), and Athletico-PR (quarterfinals).
