Corinthians beat Palmeiras but finish Paulistão runners-up again

On the morning of this Sunday (14th), Corinthians faced Palmeiras at the Canindé Stadium for the second match of the final of the Women's Paulista Championship and won by a score of 1 x 0. The goal for the Brabas was scored by midfielder Gabi Zanotti, from a penalty, at the beginning of the second half. Despite the victory, the Brabas ended up as runners-up, as they were defeated 5 x 1 in the first leg, held in Barueri a week ago.

Coach Lucas Piccinato, without any absences, fielded the following team to start the match: Lelê; Erika (Letícia Monteiro), Mariza, and Thais Ferreira; Dayana Rodríguez (Gi Fernandes), Duda Sampaio, Jaqueline (Ariel Godoi), Andressa Alves (Tamires), and Vic Albuquerque (Ivana Fuso); Gabi Zanotti and Jhonson (Gisela Robledo).

The bench had the following options: Rillary, Letícia Teles, Erika, Paulinha, Juliete, Gi Fernandes, Tamires, Juliana Passari, Letícia Monteiro, Carol Nogueira, Ivana Fuso, and Gisela Robledo.

Palmeiras Lineup

Coach Rosana Augusto started the match with: Tapia; Poliana, Ingryd, and Fe Palermo; Pati Maldaner, Andressinha, T. Maranhã, and Raissa Bahia; Brena and Amanda Gutierres.

Refereeing

The referee was Daiane Caroline Muniz dos Santos, assisted by Neuza Ines Back and Fabrini Bevilaqua Costa. The fourth referee and VAR were Jéssica Aparecida Milani and Rodrigo Guarizo Ferreira do Amaral, respectively.

First Half

The first minutes of the match between Corinthians Women and Palmeiras saw the opponent pressing the Corinthians' ball exit in the first minute. Later, the Brabas took control of the actions and possession, frequently visiting the offensive field.

At five minutes, midfielder Andressa Alves set up a play and passed to forward Jhonson, who faced Tapia and shot across, but missed. Shortly after, Tainá Maranhã received a deep pass and shot over the goal after a challenge with defender Thais Ferreira.

At 14 minutes, Brena received a deep pass and crossed into the area towards Amanda Gutierres, who was tackled by the Corinthians defenders. In the following play, the Brabas launched a counterattack but failed to finish the play.

At 18 minutes, Jhonson received a cross from the left into the area and headed it to midfielder Gabi Zanotti, who shot directly at goalkeeper Tapia. Five minutes later, the opponent threatened with a set-piece, but the Corinthians defense cleared it. Amanda Gutierres then received on the left side of Palmeiras' attack and shot poorly, missing the target.

At 27 minutes, Tainá Maranhã received on the right and shot firmly, forcing a two-step save from Lelê. Eight minutes later, Corinthians took a corner with Andressa Alves. The ball ended up with Jaqueline on the opposite side, but she crossed it directly to the Palmeiras goalkeeper.

When the clock hit 45 minutes, the referee added six minutes of stoppage time. At 46 minutes, Corinthians took a corner from the left, Tapia misjudged the ball, and Erika headed it upwards, but the ball fell into the hands of the Palmeiras goalkeeper. Four minutes later, Vic Albuquerque received from Duda Sampaio and chipped the ball, hitting Palmeiras' post!

At 51 minutes, end of the first half: Corinthians 0 x 0 Palmeiras.

Second Half

For the second half, coach Lucas Piccinato made substitutions with midfielder Letícia Monteiro and forward Gisela Robledo replacing defender Erika and forward Jhonson. The second half between the teams started evenly. At two minutes, Raíssa Bahia received on the left wing and shot over Lelê's goal.

At seven minutes, after a cross into the area, Gabi Zanotti was brought down by goalkeeper Tapia, and the referee awarded a penalty to Corinthians! From the spot, the Brabas' number 10 shot to the left corner of the Palmeiras goalkeeper, opening the score for Timão! Corinthians 1 x 0 Palmeiras.

With almost half of the second half gone, the Brabas continued to try to reduce the deficit from the first game but struggled to finish plays in the offensive field, creating counterattack opportunities for Palmeiras. At 25 minutes, two more changes for Corinthians: full-backs Gi Fernandes and Tamires replaced Dayana Rodríguez and Andressa Alves.

Eight minutes later, two more substitutions for the Brabas: Ariel Godoi and Ivana Fuso came in for Jaqueline and Vic Albuquerque. Then, Letícia Monteiro received at the left end and crossed at mid-height for the Palmeiras defense to clear. On the corner kick, goalkeeper Tapia cleared the danger from the area.

At 34 minutes, Amanda Gutierres passed to Raíssa Bahia in depth. She faced the goal and shot firmly, but goalkeeper Lelê sent it to a corner. Shortly after, Palmeiras equalized with Espinales, with a volley, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Even after scoring the first goal, the Brabas had great difficulty creating plays. Coach Lucas Piccinato made offensive changes to the team, but they did not produce the expected effects.

When the clock hit 45 minutes, the referee added four minutes. At 49 of the final stage, end of the game: Corinthians 1 x 0 Palmeiras.

Next Commitment

Now, after the Derby for the Paulistão final, the Brabas end the 2025 season and will only return to the field in 2026. The first tournament the team will compete in is the FIFA Champions Cup in England, where the Brabas will debut in the semi-final on January 28 against Gotham-USA.
