Corinthians’ ethics committee has approved an opinion recommending the expulsion of former president Andrés Sanchez over alleged misuse of the club’s corporate card. According to Gazeta Esportiva, the recommendation now goes to the Deliberative Council for a final decision.
Following an inquiry by the Justice Committee that concluded Sanchez used the club card to cover personal expenses without submitting accounts, ethics chair Leonardo Pantaleão drafted the opinion proposing expulsion.
The committee members approved the text unanimously on Monday. Sanchez served as Corinthians president from 2018-2020.
The Deliberative Council will vote on the recommendation on a date still to be set, and councillors could choose a different punishment.
Sanchez’s defence had not responded at the time of publication.
The alleged card misuse has also prompted court proceedings based on complaints filed by the State Public Prosecutor’s Office. In one case, Sanchez is accused of embezzlement. In another, a first ruling rejected allegations of money laundering and a tax offence.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has also filed a complaint against former president Duílio Monteiro Alves, who led the club from 2021-2023. In his case, the court accepted the embezzlement complaint, making him a defendant.
