The setback arrived as he was establishing himself in the side. He had started five games in a row and begun every match since Fernando Diniz took charge. He had already scored against Platense, of Argentina, in the first round of the Libertadores.

Diniz had praised the youngster publicly and said he had been impressed by him in a 2025 meeting when he faced Vasco, then managed by Diniz.

With Kayke sidelined for the rest of the season, Diniz now has Vitinho, Dieguinho, Kaio César, Pedro Raul, Gui Negão and Memphis Depay for 2026. Corinthians host Peñarol on Wednesday at 21:00 in the third round of Group E of the Copa Libertadores at the Neo Química Arena.
