With four days to go before the Conselho Deliberativo (CD) meets on Corinthians’ statute reform, the voting method has become the focal point. According to Meu Timao, Coletivo Voz Corinthiana has filed a request at the council secretariat for an open, named ballot.

The submission, framed as a three-page legal study, formally asks that the reform be decided by an open, nominal vote. It says the Lei Geral do Esporte places duties on decision-makers, including accountability, morality and corporate responsibility.

On governance, the filing argues that important institutional decisions should no longer be taken in secrecy. True transparency requires publicising decisions, which would be undermined if individual councillors’ votes are unknown.

The collective also contends that open voting could draw the council closer to the membership by aligning councillors’ words with their actions. It cites public declarations backing reform and says an open vote would let supporters compare those stances with choices made on Monday.

The study cites the CD’s internal rules, noting article 13 provides for nominal voting at the president’s discretion. The body is chaired by Romeu Tuma Júnior.

Before the filing, Tuma said he is considering acclamation for the main text and items with alternative wordings, a system where opponents must state their dissent.

He said this would not preclude individual accountability, as minutes would list all votes against by name and favourable votes would be inferred from the attendance list. He believes this would satisfy the Lei Geral do Esporte’s publicity requirements.
