Corinthians overturns ruling, 300 fans cleared for Maracanã this Saturday

On the afternoon of this Saturday, the 13th, Corinthians resolved an impasse that threatened the entry of about 300 club supporters into the Maracanã Stadium. If not resolved, it would have prevented the group from supporting Timão in the match against Fluminense, for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship – the duel starts at 9 PM (Brasília time).

The issue concerned the validation of visitor tickets at the stadium, whose facial biometrics are managed by the company Bepass. According to information gathered by Central do Timão, the technology provider had decided not to validate visitor tickets purchased by one fan but assigned to another person. In practice, this measure would affect around 300 Corinthians fans already in Rio de Janeiro for the game.

The assignment of tickets is a traditional way of transferring entries among fans during Corinthians' away matches. Thus, upon learning of Bepass's decision through Fluminense, Timão informed the affected supporters, leading to a negative reaction on social media due to a lack of further information on the matter. The club even issued an official statement on the topic, but only to guide fans to register their facial biometrics.

Faced with the impasse and considering the potential risks for fans if they were indeed prevented from entering Maracanã that night, the management opted for an emergency trip to Rio de Janeiro to try to reverse the measure or define a contingency plan with the Rio club. President Osmar Stabile was among those who traveled.

The meeting with Fluminense took place hours later, and after deliberations, it was decided that, exceptionally for this Saturday's game, Corinthians fans with tickets transferred via assignment could enter Maracanã, simply by presenting a physical or digital proof (screenshot) of the same. A specific service will be set up for this group of fans at the entrance of the stadium's visitor section.

Central do Timão contacted Fluminense's press office for more information on the case, but there has been no response so far. If there is any future statement, the article will be updated.
