On Thursday night, Corinthians face Capivariano in the Campeonato Paulista at 20:30, with a special tweak to their shirt honouring the Fiel’s famous invasions.
Esportes da Sorte, the club’s main sponsor, will alter its chest logo as a one-off tribute, with the usual wordmark replaced by the phrase 'Invasão dá Sorte'. According to Meu Timao, the team will take the field with this special print.
Last Sunday in Brasília, the Fiel again turned out in force, closing streets and escorting the team bus to the Mané Garrincha. Corinthians then beat Flamengo 2-0 to lift the Supercopa do Brasil.
The tradition traces back to 1976, when more than 70,000 Corinthians fans flooded the Maracanã for a Brasileiro semi-final against Fluminense, a tie won on penalties.
It returned in 2000 at the Club World Cup, as the Fiel filled Rio and made the Maracanã feel like home, driving the club to their first world title. In 2012, around 30,000 travelled to Japan, creating a unique scene in Yokohama for the final against Chelsea and playing a key part in the second world crown.
BYD’s logo appears near the right sleeve and remains on the kit for the Capivariano game. The arrangement is still a one-off, with talks ongoing over a longer deal. If the carmaker chooses not to continue into the Dérbi, for example, it will have paid for Thursday’s match.
