Corinthians striker slams disallowed goal in Supercopa: "Where's VAR?"

Corinthians defeated Flamengo 2-0 in the Supercopa do Brasil, but even so, the refereeing did not go unnoticed, with Timão players and coach Dorival Jr complaining heavily about the decisions made by Rafael Rodrigo Klein, the match referee.

Forward Memphis Depay posted on his social media complaining about what would have been Timão’s second goal in the final, scored by the Dutchman himself, with the following caption: “When you get robbed of a goal in a final. Where’s the VAR? Where’s the replay?”

According to official information given to the team captains on the field, during a period in the second half, VAR was offline and out of service due to a power outage and signal loss in part of the stadium, including at the time of the goal disallowed for offside by Yuri Alberto. That’s why there were no replays or the famous drawn lines, which would be justified by this situation.

The absence of VAR was even officially reported by the match referee in the match report: “I must report that at 7 minutes into the second half, the VAR tool became inoperative due to a power outage, returning at 34 minutes into the second half.”

On the Flamengo side, there have also been a series of complaints about the refereeing due to the protocol used in the sending off of Carrascal, who assaulted Breno Bidon in the last play of the first half and had the VAR review and his expulsion confirmed only when the teams returned to the field to play the second half, which is allowed by the rules, although it is unusual.
