Corinthians to write to CBF over controversial Brasileirão refereeing

Corinthians plans to submit an official letter to the CBF to formally complain about the performance of referee Rodrigo José Pereira de Lima, who officiated the 1-1 draw against Internacional at Beira-Rio last Wednesday, the 2nd. The decision to award a penalty to the team from Rio Grande do Sul was the main reason for the club's outrage.

The controversial incident happened in stoppage time, when defender Cacá challenged midfielder Bruno Henrique for the ball inside the box. Initially, Rodrigo did not call the foul, but after consulting VAR, he awarded the penalty. The decision infuriated coach Dorival Júnior, who was sent off after vehement protests.

According to information from ESPN, the Timão board believes the team has been harmed in several recent rounds of the Brasileirão and considers it necessary to take a firmer stance. The letter to the CBF is seen as a step towards demanding explanations and changes in the way refereeing is conducted.

The club also cites the episode of the defeat to Flamengo, when they questioned the origin of the second goal by the red-and-black team. In the play, the assistant awarded a throw-in to the Rio team after a challenge between Gustavo Henrique and Gonzalo Plata. Corinthians claims, however, that the last touch was by the Ecuadorian striker, which would have changed the outcome of the play.

In a press conference after the draw against Inter, Dorival Júnior reiterated his dissatisfaction. The coach stated that, in his view, Corinthians is one of the clubs most harmed by refereeing throughout the Brazilian Championship and called for greater attention from the entity regarding controversial decisions.

Amid complaints about recent refereeing, Timão is preparing for its next fixture of the season. This Saturday, the 4th, at 9 p.m., the team hosts Mirassol at Neo Química Arena, for the 27th round of the Brazilian Championship.
