Fernando Diniz received a call from Philippe Coutinho after his dismissal on Sunday, which followed a 1-0 defeat to Fluminense in the Campeonato Carioca semi-finals.
According to Globo.com, the midfielder, who terminated his Vasco contract last week, thanked the coach during the conversation. They had worked together for almost a year and a half.

On Monday, the day the squad returned, Diniz went to CT Moacyr Barbosa to say farewell to players and staff.
Club president Pedrinho was there and also spoke with the former Vasco coach.
The board has begun sounding out candidates and held initial talks, but there has been no concrete progress yet.
