Coventry City and Leicester City could miss out on striker target William Boving.
Coventry City and Leicester City could miss out on striker target William Boving from Sturm Graz as Mainz launch a €3m bid.
Sturm Graz forward William Boving has been subject to plenty of transfer speculation, with clubs across England, Spain and Germany all fighting it out for the 22-year-old's signature.
Boving has impressed for Sturm Graz, where he enjoyed an 11-goal league campaign last season as well as being a constant feature in the Austrian side's Champions League journey, making eight appearances in the competition last term.
After producing 17 goal contributions in the 2024/25 season in all competitions, Boving has introduced himself as a hot prospect.
Football League World has exclusively reveald that Championship sides Coventry and Leicester have a keen interest in the Danish international, and have been eyeing up moves for him.
However, the young striker has also attracted interest from several spanish clubs as well as Bundesliga side Mainz.
It has been reported by journalist Pete O'Rouke via X on Friday, that German outfit Mainz have submitted a €3m euro/approximately £2.6m bid for Boving with time quickly running out to complete business.
Despite being heavily linked to the forward, Coventry and Leicester are yet to submit a bid for Boving, but Mainz have taken a different approach to stamp their foot down to complete the signing.
With Mainz already having a €2.5m bid rejected yesterday evening, as reported by Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, their intentions are clear that they are keen to get a deal done quickly for the striker.
Mainz have had an injury to their current striker Benedict Hollerbach early on this season, therefore swaying their interest in the signing of Boving from a want to very much a need.
Their desire to strike a deal for the 22-year-old could mean that Coventry and Leicester miss out on their target, and with three days to go until the window's closure, this could spell danger for the pair of Championship sides as they look to boost their attacking reinforcements as the season kicks in to full flow.
Coventry have got off to a flying start this season in front of goal, which has led them to be unbeaten in their opening three Championship matches.
The Sky Blues have scored a staggering 12 goals in their last two fixtures, raising the question of whether there is a need to spend €3m on a striker, with current frontman Haji Wright having no problem finding the net early on in the season.
As for the Foxes, they have opted for Jordan Ayew to take up the number 9 role this season with the Ghanaian international yet to open his tally for the season.
Known for his link-up play, bringing others into the attack as opposed to his clinical nature in front of goal, if Leicester City were to miss out on Boving, it could be seen as a greater miss than it would be for Coventry, as the Foxes will struggle to fill the void left by arguably their best player in the club's history, Jamie Vardy.
With a few days left to complete any business, Leicester City
