The Swedish stopper is set to be out of action for a while after injuring his knee against Sheffield United
Coventry City recently lost first-choice goalkeeper Oliver Dovin for the rest of the 2024-25 season and beyond, but he is now set to start the long road to recovery after sharing an image of his injury update.
The Sky Blues landed the services of the 22-year-old from Swedish outfit Hammarby last summer, and he made 28 appearances in the Championship, establishing himself as Frank Lampard's number one after returning to the starting 11 against Plymouth Argyle on Boxing Day.
Disaster struck though against Sheffield United in late March, when Blades striker Tyrese Campbell collided with the Swedish stopper with the ball at his feet, and he had to be stretchered off as City went on to lose 3-1 in South Yorkshire.
Coventry haven't had much luck at Bramall Lane when it comes to injuries, with former player Callum O'Hare suffering a season-ending knee injury there too on Boxing Day 2022.
And the same fate was prescribed to Dovin, with Frank Lampard confirming last week that he was set to undergo surgery to rectify an ACL injury - similar to what O'Hare had to go through after being struck down at the same stadium.
It now appears that Dovin has had his procedure all done and dusted, with the young goalie sharing an update on his official Instagram account, revealing that the surgery was a success and that his recovery will start now.
Dovin's setback though comes at a bad time for Coventry and Lampard, who have been chasing a play-off spot in the Championship for months, but have hit a flat spot of form at the worst possible time.
With Dovin sidelined, presumably for at least the rest of 2025, the onus will now be on Brad Collins to keep goal for the Sky Blues for the remainder of the campaign - and potentially beyond.
The 28-year-old had a stint in-between the sticks earlier in the season after previous interim manager Rhys Carr dropped Dovin, but the tables turned following a humbling 4-1 defeat at Portsmouth, where you could argue the ex-Chelsea academy man was culpable for at least three of Callum Lang's four-goal salvo.
