FIFA has imposed a transfer registration ban on Al-Nassr ahead of January, a setback for Cristiano Ronaldo and his club.
According to Goal.com, the governing body updated its official register on Friday, listing the Saudi Pro League side among clubs barred from registering new players. The sanction is dated 19 December and is marked 'until lifted', with no end specified.
Al Shabab, Damac and Al Riyadh also appear on FIFA’s list.
Al-Nassr faced a similar ban in July 2023 over unpaid add-ons from Ahmed Musa’s 2018 move from Leicester City. Musa joined in a £14m deal, won the league, then left in 2020. FIFA ruled £390,000 in performance-related fees remained outstanding despite warnings from 2021, triggering the sanction.
That case was settled quickly when the club paid around €two million, and the ban was lifted before spanning multiple windows. The precedent points to a financial issue rather than sporting, and one that could be resolved once obligations are met.
Ronaldo, 40, has 11 goals and two assists in 12 appearances this season. Team-mate Mohamed Simakan has highlighted his discipline and leadership within the dressing room. Al-Nassr are next in action on 24 December in the AFC Champions League Two group stage against Al-Zawraa.
